Catholic Archbishop pastoral letter "Don't mess with marriage" - Melbourne

Bloody self righteous hypocrites. The Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne has sent a pastoral letter home with Catholic school kids that opposes gay marriage. The letter is online, but it's also a PDF of a glossy booklet (the link to that is at the bottom of the letter). Nice to see the Catholic church spending it's money on something other than defending paedophiles I guess. Although this is an entirely hypocritical load of bullshit.

I note the use of capital letters in the linked page, "DON'T MESS WITH MARRIAGE". Why they did that I guess is to add weight to the link, but they have no idea of online etiquette. The use of capitals is considered shouting, and rude. But I digress...

Archbishop of Melbourne Denis Hart wrote to about 200 principals at Catholic primary and secondary schools on Monday, urging them to lobby parents to support the current "meaning of marriage".

Archbishop Hart said it was urgent that "the meaning of marriage" and the "implications of redefining marriage" were highlighted.

Principals were asked to give parents a pastoral letter from the Catholic bishops of Australia titled "Don't Mess with Marriage".

"You might also consider asking them to send it to their Members of Parliament with a covering letter," Mr Hart said.

The 15-page booklet said redefining marriage would have "far-reaching consequences". "All marriages would come to be defined by intensity of emotion rather than a union founded on sexual complementarily and potential fertility." more

Oh the humanity! A marriage based on love instead of procreation! 

Actually, the entire paragraph quote is even more hilarious. This from the pastoral letter itself:

Redefining marriage in the way now proposed would see marriage reduced to a committed, affectionate sexual relationship between any two people. All marriages would come to be defined by intensity of emotion rather than a union founded on sexual complementarity and potential fertility. Husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, will be seen to be wholly interchangeable social constructs, as gender would no longer matter. more

OMG! a "committed, affectionate sexual relationship between any two people"! Is there no end to this evil? Run for the hills!

Seriously, the Catholic church preaching to Australia about morality? Oh please. My suggestion would be to stick to defending their paedophiles, although that's all unraveling too of late.
