Trump goes bananas at Japan over US "having" to defend it - WTF? :s

Trump has gone wacko at Japan saying the US "has" to defend it if it get's invaded, and that Japan should make a bigger contribution to the alliance. Far out.

Is this Trumps big US plan to limit China's influence in the Pacific? If he's going to start insulting Pacific ally nations he may do well to remember just how pissed off the populations are of those ally nations that our gov blindly follows into stupid US war after stupid US war. Why should we bother if the president (probably not) insults our efforts?

Australia in particular is finely balanced between China and the US. We've just signed some big free trade deal with them (quite controversially I might add as unions here say China has been given too much access to Australia , but that's another story). What does Trump think is going to happen if he pisses off Australians even more than we already are with stupid US corporate funded wars?
Pine Gap, Australia, used by US to triangulate it's missiles in war.

There will be a strong movement here to start ditching some ties with the US, of course. We'd like Pine Gap shut down thank you, and all those US troops in northern Australia gone. And we won't bother with those silly F-35 lemons as I'm sure we could defend ourselves with alternative and better planes currently on the market. And fuck you Trump next time you want to nuke someone, don't count on us.....

Australia also has an alliance with the US being ANZUS. I'm not sure about Japan but many here and in New Zealand regard that alliance as not worth the paper it's written on. If Australia is invaded, the US doesn't automatically have to defend us. It's entirely up to congress and the president of the day whether the ANZUS alliance is invoked.

In that sense is Trump bullshitting when he says the US "has to" defend Japan? No surprise then that Trump is now threatening to "walk away" from the Japanese treaty.
Donald Trump has savaged Japan, one of America's closest allies, stating that if the US is attacked, all Japan would do is "sit home and watch Sony television".

He expressed his frustration that the US is bound by treaty to defend the Asian nation but that if the United States is attacked, the Japanese cannot help because of Article 9, which constitutionally forbids it to send armed forces overseas.

He said that it "could be necessary" for the US to walk away from the treaty, or at least threaten to do so.

At a campaign event in Iowa, Mr Trump also repeated his criticism of countries that do not pull their weight in terms of financial contributions to Nato.

"You know we have a treaty with Japan, where if Japan is attacked, we have to use the full force and might of the United States," he said.

"If we're attacked, Japan doesn't have to do anything. They can sit home and watch Sony television, OK?" telegraph.co.uk
